Driveway remedial works
The Waterstop Solutions NSW team was engaged to inspect a property in a northern beach side suburb of Sydney and provide a remedial waterproofing and concrete repair solution to the cracked concrete driveway, which was causing water to seep through to the room below.
As reported by the client, the room was unusable because of rainwater ingress, so the goal of the repair remedial waterproofing and driveway repair was to make the room dry and functional again.
We also observed that the block wall adjoining the stairway and the driveway was showing signs of moisture issues presented by drummy and cracked render.
To address and fix these issues, our Sydney-based leak sealing and concrete repair specialists carried out the following remedial works:
▪️ Removed the existing driveway topping.
▪️ Underneath the slab topping where the crack presented: Unsound concrete was removed until sound concrete was found and reinforcing steel exposed. Saw-cut repair zone to eliminate feather edges. Mechanically prepared the substrate, including the removal of any corrosion and cleaned the non-corroded steel. The steel was treated with a rust inhibitor and the concrete was primed before reinstating with a high build shrinkage compensated repair mortar.
▪️ Installed a new drainage, constructed a concrete hob along the driveway and staircase area, adjusted the strip drain and ensured the correct level for the new slab topping.
▪️ Removed the render on the block wall down to the staircase line. Waterproofed the drain and down the façade all the way down to the staircase line.
▪️ Installed two layers of torch on membrane to the driveway with turnup on the concrete hob.
▪️ A new render was installed on the wall over the new waterproofing system. Once the render was cured, it was painted with an acrylic membrane as a protective moisture barrier.
▪️ Finally, the handrail was put back in place and stencilcrete was installed on the driveway for an aesthetic finish.
The remedial waterproofing and concrete repair works were successfully completed, and our client can again enjoy the comfort of a dry room downstairs knowing that their driveway and stairway wall are restored and waterproof.
