We are very pleased to have Dan on board. He is an absolute true team player and is doing a spectacular job of picking up our concepts. He has been working on the tools, doing inspections, and helping to write up quotes. Dan has shown some great passionate dedication by swapping into roles at the last minute to help with emergencies.
As part of Dan’s Engineering Degree, earlier this year, he spent 3 weeks at a mine site up north where he did his practical experience as part of his thesis. Dan’s thesis project is on the classification and management of diesel emissions of underground equipment. Currently, they are managed using a NSW guideline that Dan believes requires updating due to the improvement of diesel equipment emissions since the implementation of this guideline.
10 Questions for Dan
1. What inspired you to join the Waterstop Solutions team?
Having played footy with Christian Dunnel and him knowing I was studying engineering, he often spoke about the interesting projects he got to work on and this inspired me to try and get involved.
2. What three words describe Waterstop Solutions?
Specialists, mateship and skilled.
3. What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me starts with meeting either Harold or Christian and driving around Brisbane meeting with clients and assessing their issues and coming up with solutions.
4. What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy learning different styles of construction as well as meeting all types of people.
5. What are the most common building defects/issues you see?
The most common building defect I see is an infill slab that allows hydrostatic pressure to cause water ingress.
6. What are your hopes for our industry?
I hope that the industry keeps innovating and coming up with new technologies.
7. Your favourite, most challenging project & why?
My most challenging project was working with technicians to diagnose and find the root cause of water ingress into the smoke ducts above the tunnels. Due to many new staff, I had to investigate the construction methods myself and explore the smoke ducts in this process.
8. What makes you happy?
Spending time with mates makes me happy.
9. Tell us something about you that people may not know
Something people may not know about me is I am actually Canadian and moved here when I was young.
10. What are your favourite things to do outside work?
I enjoy fishing, camping and 4-wheel driving in my free time.
