What can we do as a business to help mitigate climate change?
Environmentally responsible
We at Waterstop Solutions Pty Ltd are committed to undertaking our activities in an environmentally responsible manner and effectively managing any risk that may impact upon the environment. We manage work activities in a manner that is consistent with the principles of ecological sustainability. Our Environmental System fully complies with Australian Standard AS/NZS 14001, and we are committed to optimising our performance so that it conforms to the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard for Environmental Management.
We recycle and shop locally
Where we can, we choose and support local suppliers. We recycle all consumables that can be received by recycling facilities and we also use recycled products where feasible.
Carpooling and working from home
Reducing fossil fuels would likely have the biggest impact on our CO2 emissions. Our technicians are carpooling when feasible and some of our staff are working from home offices. This reduces pollution and our carbon footprint, promoting a greener lifestyle.
Greener electricity source – Going solar
We have installed 6.6kW solar panels because we wish to do our part in reducing our electricity usage and replacing it with a greener electricity source.
Going solar is a great choice for Waterstop Solutions for a couple of reasons.
Shifting to solar energy is the environmentally responsible choice that stands by our endeavour to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to wishing to reduce our carbon footprint, we also feel it is important that we try to protect our business from volatile utility costs during seasonal swings.
As our operation hours are during the day, we will be directly using the energy the 6.6kW solar panels are producing when the sun is shining. The idea is that our solar panels will pay for the air conditioning systems running in the offices during the day and that the solar panel system may pay for itself in about 2 years or more.
A good quality 6.6kW solar system, as we have installed, generates 27.7 units of electricity on average per day in Brisbane, which may be enough to offset a small business or an average household’s energy usage. However, the output will vary depending on location, system positioning and quality. (Ref.: Solar Calculator)
