Waterstop Solutions was engaged to treat the dampness of the walls of this lift shaft. Our client, the building’s facility manager, reported that they had only identified that the lift shaft walls were damp after rainy periods, and that no water ingress had been observed on the lift pit floor. As part of their maintenance and repair program, they scheduled the remedial waterproofing works to be carried out to help prevent potential future issues to the lift caused by water.
The proactive maintenance and repair approach demonstrated by our client, allowed the moisture issue to be solved early, before it potentially could develop into a much more significant problem.
The lift pit and lift shaft hold all the technology and electric mechanisms connected to the lift itself, so if water is leaking into the lift pit or the lift shaft there is a real potential of costly damage to the lift and the situation could become dangerous, if it were to be left untreated.
As a remedial waterproofing solution to treat the dampness of the walls, our leak sealing specialist performed high-pressure leak sealing injections to the floor to wall joints of the entire perimeter of the lift shaft.
The benefit of this system is that it provides a flexible seal to the full depth of the cracks treated. The injection system creates a three-dimensional waterproof seal inside the building element by injecting a high-quality hydrophilic polyurethane resin under high pressure. It fault finds and treats unidentified at-risk adjacent areas, offers additional protection to any steel reinforcing in the path of the crack and slows the corrosion to any possible compromised reinforcing steel or yet to be.
Once the leak sealing injections were completed, the injection ports were removed, and the holes and cracks were plugged with repair mortar followed by a thorough surface preparation of the walls before installing waterborne epoxy (WBE) reverse side waterproofing barrier system to the walls.
