Sydney basement car park suffering high-flow water intrusion
Waterstop Solutions NSW came to the site manager’s aid by swiftly responding to the emergency situation where the whole lower level of the car park was flooded. We were contracted to slow the water ingress enough to allow the client to appoint another contractor to build a new retention pit.
A mixture of water and sand was rushing in through the blown-out base of a retention pit that was built 1.9 metres below the water table. Stemming the water was a matter of urgency as the water was rising fast in the lower level of this car park, putting cars at risk as the water was moving up higher and higher.
Once our leak sealing technicians had slowed the high-flow water intrusion down, we had vacuum trucks ready to remove the sand and used a large pump to pump the water into an existing stormwater line while our technicians could install concrete into the existing pit.
This procedure was followed by treating the area by targeted high-pressure injection creating a curtain wall around the pit by using a hydrophilic polymer resin. Once completed, the project was ready to be handed over to the sub-contractor to build the new retention pit.

The leak sealing process, or polyurethane (PU) injection, involves the high-pressure injection of flexible water-reactive polyurethane (resin) into targeted areas to form a durable seal. This system is ideal where a long-lasting waterproof seal is required to stop the passage of water or other liquids through gaps, cracks, joints, and penetrations – typically in concrete and masonry construction.

Our proprietary leak sealing system forms a long-lasting flexible seal against water ingress which also withstands normal building movement between construction elements and details.
This system can be installed in any weather – in fact, the wetter the better, as it reacts with water right before your eyes. In dry weather, flooding the source of water entry (where possible) may have a similar effect.
